Aleksey Muravyev
World-class coach with decades of experience developing confident young athletes and successful competitive fencers.
​Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Aleksey Muravyev has dedicated more than five decades to the sport of fencing.
Aleksey began fencing in 1971 and transitioned into coaching in 1980, beginning what would become a lifelong career developing competitive fencers. In 2000, he moved to the United States and has been coaching in the U.S. since 2001, bringing with him the depth, discipline, and tradition of the Eastern European school of fencing.
Throughout his coaching career, Aleksey has developed athletes at every level, from young fencers beginning their journey in the sport to competitors on the national and international stage. His students have earned championship titles and podium finishes at USA Fencing National Championships, North American Cups (NACs), Junior Olympics, Super Youth Circuits (SYC), Regional Youth Circuits (RYC), Regional Open Circuits (ROC), and the New Jersey High School Championships.
His athletes have also competed internationally, with a number of students representing the United States and other countries at Cadet and Junior World Cups and World Championships.
In addition to more than 45 years of coaching experience, Aleksey holds a Master’s degree and has more than 10 years of experience as a fencing referee, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the sport from both the coaching and officiating perspectives.
Aleksey’s coaching philosophy goes beyond developing strong technical fencers. He believes in building disciplined, confident, and strategic athletes while fostering resilience, sportsmanship, and a lifelong respect for fencing. Above all, he is committed to recognizing the individual potential of each student and helping them reach the highest level they can achieve.
